The Sunday School of Rope

The Sunday School of Rope

What is this event?

On some Sunday afternoons, we study rope in many ways.

The Sunday School of Rope is our learning playground: a space for studying, experimenting, analyzing, and refining our practice together.
Each Sunday will bring a new focus, but the energy stays consistent: curious minds, technical depth, playful exploration, and a strong sense of community.

Our School of Rope activities may include:

🪢 Mini workshops
Short, structured teachings led by our team or occasionally by special guests.

🪢 Lab sessions / Study groups
Focused exploration of specific techniques, structures, transitions, tension, or partner dynamics.

🪢 Rope analysis sessions
We might look at rope photos or scenes (from social media or books) and break them down together:
What do we like? What could be improved? How do we think it was built?
Sometimes we’ll even try to recreate the tie, turning inspiration into a practical challenge.

🪢 Rope games & challenges
Skill-based exercises that push creativity, speed, precision, flow, or problem-solving.

🪢 Demo sessions
Live tying with explanation, discussion, and space for questions.

🪢 Practice time
Open floor for tying, drilling, experimenting, observing, or simply being around rope energy.

You don’t have to participate in every structured moment. You can choose to observe, practice quietly, or fully dive in.

This is not a performance space.
It’s a rope classroom, laboratory, and playground combined.

To attend this event, it is mandatory that you have attended a Consent Workshop.

This event will be bilingual, in Romanian and English. The workshop will be held in English.

📝 You don’t need to register for this event. You can just show up at the door with your InFLUX registration number ready!

✦ This Sunday’s Focus: Minimalist Rope Workshop presented by Green Gorilla & Mia

Hands-on workshop – Intermediate to Advanced level

As we progress in skill and complexity, the natural tendency is to use more and more rope.
But what happens when we use less?

Minimalist rope invites us to do more with less. It challenges creativity, sharpens technique, saves time and material, and creates a very distinct aesthetic and psychological impact.

In this edition, we will work primarily with a single 7–8m rope to build complete, efficient ties.

Requirements: Participants should have prior experience with shibari or similar styles, including:

– Ability to tie a functional chest/body harness and/or hip harness
or
– Ability to tie improvised or freeform Japanese-inspired rope at a functional level

No suspension knowledge required.

Bring:

– One 7–8m rope (jute, hemp, or similar natural fibre)
– Additional ropes (optional, at your discretion)
– No special equipment needed

In this class, you will:

– Learn an approach that focuses on the essential goals of a tie
– Experiment with body mechanics and rope multitasking
– Practice planning ahead to tie with maximum economy
– Explore how different body types and proportions influence structure and efficiency
– Integrate improvisation into minimalist tying
– Discover ways to create strong sensory and psychological impact using less rope
– Reflect on the model’s experience and embodied feedback
– Examine safety considerations specific to minimalist work

This is not a pattern-based class. The focus is on building a foundational rope vocabulary that participants can use to create their own work, adapted to their and their partner’s specific needs. Personal creativity is encouraged. This is a floor-based class, although many principles can later be adapted for suspension work.

Our presenters:

Green Gorilla loves rope, rope marks and photography (especially if it includes rope). After several years of experimentation he has developed a distinctly personal, intense and often sadistic tying style which leans heavily on improvisation, fluidity and creativity. He believes that everybody should have the space to be creative and to express themselves in order to find the kind of rope that fits their desires.

Mia will be the demo bottom for this workshop. She has been an enthusiastic member of the rope community for almost 10 years, likes exploring different styles and approaches to rope, and loves being surrounded by people who share her passion.

Please be on time so as not to disturb other participants and make the most of the practice time. We know sometimes things show up, and it might be hard to get there on time. Write to us on WhatsApp and let us know the situation. We’ll try to work out some magic and have somebody available to open the door for you after registration.

How can you reach us?

Our address is Bulevardul Theodor Pallady 287. You can find information on how to reach us here or here.

The area has many parking spaces. The metro station at “1 Decembrie 1918” is the closest to us and it’s only 8 minutes away, on foot. Take the small elevator (it’s behind the large stairs on the ground floor) to the 5th floor, where you will see the sign for InFLUX. One more flight of stairs up, and you’re there. If mobility issues prevent you from climbing up a flight of stairs, you can take the large elevator, which will take you straight to our door, but that one is much slower.

Our phone number is +40723258105 and you can write to us on WhatsApp before the door closing time.

Who can come?

Anybody interested in ropes and bondage is welcome to join us. If you’ve participated in our Consent Workshop, you’re all set to join us for this event.

Don’t worry if you’re new to ropes or already know a lot – everyone is welcome! You can try tying, get tied, discuss ropes with our staff or other participants, or just watch and enjoy. Come with your ropes, or just come as you are and use our community ropes. And if you’re thinking of coming solo, check out our blog post with tips for navigating rope events alone 👉 here.

What are you wearing?

This is a laid-back event for all. Wear something comfortable, like sports pants, leggings, or tights.

What are you bringing?

📤 Please bring your InFLUX card! The event requires that you have attended the Consent Workshop. We will check at the entrance if you have attended it.
