Introduction to Hojōjutsu and the History of Shibari Workshop
What is this event?
This workshop is designed for those who are interested in exploring the rich cultural and historical contexts of Japanese bondage. We’ll start by delving into the origins and evolution of Hojōjutsu, a traditional martial art, using rope to restrain suspects and criminals. We then transition into the development of shibari in the last century, focusing mainly on the different current styles and nawashi who are related to each style.
We will explore a range of different Hojōjutsu ties both in the hayanawa (fast rope) and honnawa (long rope) ways. We will continue with how some current nawashi have integrated Hojōjutsu in their style and how others have a completely different one, and what the specific characteristics of each style are both from a practical and visual viewpoint.
We will also delve deeper into recent history to see how Japanese rope bondage has evolved in recent decades. In general we can make a difference between more modern and traditional styles. You’ll get hands-on examples of what these styles consist of.
🇬🇧 This event will be held only in English.
🔥We welcome riggers and models from the Romanian (Bucharest & other cities) community and international participants! 🔥
The event will be preceded by a Consent Workshop in English. If you are coming to us for the first time it’s mandatory to attend it – please RSVP to it here.
Who teaches at this event?
Asiana started tying over 15 years ago. She’s the founder of RopeLounge in Amsterdam. She studied with numerous (Japanese) teachers. In 2017 she spent three months in Japan to further her knowledge of kinbaku and Japanese culture. Kinbaku is her passion and she loves sharing her knowledge.
Door is a kinbaku model and a connoisseur of pain, especially emotional. She loves how kinbaku emphasises and fetishises the beauty of the struggle, the suffering and the resignation, and most importantly, the sacrifice the model makes for their rope top.
