Manipulation in Movement – A weekend workshop by Haag (NL) & Ten (US)
What is this event?
The art and practice of rope bondage is most typically equated to capture and restriction. But what about the path it takes to get there and the movements we make along the way? How do you move with someone and how do you make someone move?
This weekend is an exploration of gravity, flow, and creative techniques to provide more kineticism to one’s rope play. By reviewing the use of traditional structures and techniques present in Japanese rope bondage, we will engage in new methods to bring excitement to our existing rope styles, incorporate more creativity, and allow new motivations to come forth with our partners.
We invite you to join us for this workshop in which movement, engagement and fun are its central features <3.
The following subjects will be covered throughout this workshop:
– Re-evaluation of existing patterns and techniques
During this workshop, we explore new ways to use the patterns and techniques you have learned during your rope journey and how we can make adjustments to further facilitate flow and interaction. Often we start sessions with a planned route which can hinder both our adaptability and creativity. We will show you tips and tricks that are easily incorporated into your existing tying styles to diversify your tying experience and stimulate creativity.
– Composing our sessions
When we approach our sessions as compositions, or the “the act of combining parts or elements to form a whole” it enables us to consciously play with different intensities, tempos. Do we as composers want to create something classical or experimental? Do we intend to provide calmness or want to overwhelm? How can we mix different elements to create something unique and memorable and find gratification in this creative process? This process can be approached in a way where the model is the audience, but there is also the option to co-create and inspire in the moment.
– Movement and dynamics on the floor, feet and in the air
Many traditional sequences of tying start on the floor, move to the air and go back again? We will show techniques on how to diversify this experience to further facilitate spontaneity but also how to adjust the intensity of a session without having to suddenly end a session with an “early landing”.
– Rope Handling & Body manipulation
Our style of tying is based on dynamic and fast movement. We incorporate a lot of tricks and techniques to ensure the flow of our scene, constructional integrity of our ties, continued engagement with our partners, and the desired level of (dis)comfort and safety while tying. This content can be highly detailed and personal and aims to raise awareness on how we move ourselves and move with our partners (and their ropes).
– Physiology, kinesthetics and mechanics
Knowledge on how the body (and brain) works and moves can highly improve our rope skills, confidence, and scene dynamics. Through better awareness, we are also able to improve our risk assessment before and during a session and to make constructional adjustments to suit the models (instead of adjusting the models to a predetermined tie).
– Expectation management, risk awareness and communication
We focus on setting expectations through mutual awareness of our personal risk profiles, interpersonal preferences, and communication styles. Through rope we engage in very diverse ways of connecting to others. Many people have developed skills and techniques to further facilitate these connections through different ways of negotiation tactics and communication (or lack thereof). We wish to discuss our views, motivation, and approaches on these matters to share insights and encourage self-reflection to better one’s own tactics.
🇬🇧 This event will be held only in English.
🔥We welcome riggers and models from the Romanian (Bucharest & other cities) community and international participants! 🔥
If you are coming to us for the first time it’s mandatory to attend one of our Consent Workshops. You can attend the online versions, on January 8th, by RSVP’ing here for the Romanian edition and here for the English edition of this workshop.
Who teaches at this event?
Haag is a professional rope bondage teacher and runs the Ellipsis Rope Events Foundation based in Rotterdam. He has hosted countless rope events varying from international workshops, performances, demonstrations and rope jams throughout the last decade. Haag is passionate about photography, community work and teaching and his tying style is focused on safety, knowledge/experience-based improvisation, high paced tying, dynamic movement, and creativity. He has a very technical approach to rope which is complemented by his dance background, psychology studies and various hobbies that incorporate fine motor skills.
Yael Stormborn/ NineInchYaels or “Ten” (Los Angeles, California) is an aerialist, performance artist, and rope model who brings in her perspective as a US based artist and researcher. In the rope world, Ten is most notable for touring, performing, and educating with Felix Ruckert and as a presenter at Eurix. In LA, Ten can be found performing at many an underground after-hours fetish club, for Playa Alchemist at Burning Man, in addition to being a daughter of The House of Red Velvet, an erotic, surrealist dark art performance collective in Los Angeles.
Upon finding rope bondage, it was a seminal point for Ten to translate and unlock the similarities and connections between aerial arts and rope bondage and to create a lexicon for both rope tops and bottoms to more fully explore. As a kink performer, she is specifically interested in creating & sharing the work that she does with her body & how that translates to be a cultural provocateur. Artistically, the work of Ten is largely influenced by eroticism and the exploration of abandonment, often playing with proximity, perspective, and the intersection of light, sound & touch to evoke an emotional response. Currently, Ten is focused on providing education and curriculum focused towards active bottoms as that is her main skillset.

Many of the exercises can be adjusted to facilitate different skill levels and attendees have the option to focus on the fields that are most relevant or more interesting to them. Our workshops are not competitions and we expect and encourage people to stay within their (and our) limits of skill and comfort. Please feel free to be direct and honest and expect the same from us.
