The Evening Drag Show is coming to InFLUX!
27 November, 2023Exploring Art and Humanity:The Life Drawing Workshop
13 December, 2023We know that people have different levels of ability and disability and we know we could always improve. We never want to make promises we can’t keep, and we are aware that despite our best efforts, we have not managed to make our space accessible to everyone. But we think keeping communication open and letting you know what we can offer is the best policy. This article will try to cover just that so you can have some expectations of what you can rely on in our space.
For people with disabilities
You can reach our space by the large cargo lift, which means no stairs to climb. It is large enough to fit any wheelchair. However, it was not designed for this purpose. It might present challenges when opening the door to it or closing it (it is a manual door). We are just one WhatsApp message away from coming to help out, but we also know not everyone is comfortable asking for help.
We have a bathroom for people with disabilities that can accommodate wheelchairs and has been specially designed for this purpose.
Also, all the entryways to the space are large enough for any size wheelchair to pass through.
The only space that we have not been able to make accessible is the upstairs socializing area. There was no safe solution that we could find to allow independent access for disabled folx into that space, but we are more than willing to help you get there. We also know that asking for help is not true accessibility and we will never offer help unless it is asked for, so you will never be put on the spot, having to refuse an offer of any kind.
That being said, there are always opportunities to socialize on the ground floor of the space. There is also a kitchenette available there so you will have access to water, tea, and coffee just like you would in the upstairs kitchen.
For neurodiverse people
We also have some facilities for people with special sensory needs.
We have a separate room available during all events where you can relax and take your time. We provide noise-cancelling earphones, relaxing music, and perfumed oils. There is also a weighted blanket available and are looking to add many other items to help your needs.
If you have any special items that you use when sensory overloaded, please drop us a message or tell us about it so we can grow our offering of helpful tools. We appreciate your input and can’t wait to make the space as comfy as possible.
These are just some of the things we could think of or that we use ourselves, but we always look forward to hearing from you. So please reach out and let us know how we can do better.
